Theresa C. Joswick, a member of Dawda, Mann, Mulcahy, & Sadler PLC has been recognized for the fifth year in a row in the area of Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation in the 2010 edition of Chambers USA, “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.”
Joswick has more than 30 years experience in assisting a wide range of clients in the design, preparation, implementation, administration and taxation of retirement plans, welfare (medical, dental, cafeteria and severance pay), and executive benefit plans for both for-profit and tax-exempt organizations. She also advises both buyers and sellers on benefit issues in connection with business mergers, acquisitions and dispositions.
Joswick earned her law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and her B.A. from the University of Michigan.
In addition, Wayne S. Segal has been elected to the Management Committee of Dawda Mann. The committee is responsible for the strategic direction and daily management of the firm.
Segal joined the firm in 1996 and has extensive experience in the areas of banking, real estate, and corporate law. He has experience representing financial institutions in the structuring, negotiating, working-out, and documentation of commercial loans. In addition, his practice includes advising clients in all aspects of commercial real estate acquisition, development, disposition, and leasing matters.

Jennifer M. Grieco of Neuman Anderson PC, located in Southfield, was sworn in as the 78th president of the Oakland County Bar Association at the organization’s Annual Meeting conducted June 3 at the Marriott at Centerpoint. Grieco was sworn in by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen A. O’Brien.
Grieco attended the University of Toledo where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree majoring in history and minoring in political science. Jennifer went on to earn her law degree from the University of Toledo where she graduated in May of 1997. She has practiced law continuously since 1997, specializing in complex commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on business tort claims including professional malpractice, contract claims, shareholder disputes, coverage claims and construction litigation.
Grieco was recognized as a 2007 Michigan Super Lawyer – Professional Liability Defense; was recognized in Michigan Lawyers Weekly: 2004 Up and Coming Lawyers (five attorneys recognized); and was a featured Attorney of the Month, LACHES, Oakland County Bar Association in August of 2000.
Greico was elected to the OCBA board in 2003. Having served in several capacities for the OCBA, she was the first chairman of the New Lawyers Council, co-chaired the 2005 Circuit and Probate Bench/Bar Conference, and co-chaired the Public Service Committee. She is a fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation, a sustaining member of the Oakland County Bar Association, and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Negligence Council where she was appointed to a two-year term in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Michigan Bar Foundation.
Grieco also has held numerous leadership roles in other bar associations including as president of the Woman’s Bar Association of Oakland County in 2003-2004; and was very active at the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association—now Michigan Association for Justice—where she served on the Executive Board from 2002 to 2006. Grieco also was appointed to the Oakland Livingston Legal Aid’s board of trustees where she served from 2001-2003.
On June 2, the OCBA’s board of directors held its elections for officers for the 2010-2011 term beginning July 1, 2010. Elected to the position of president-elect is Peter M. Douglas C. Salzenstein, a partner in Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, and Cohn’s Litigation Department, was named Young Activist of the Year by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Metropolitan Detroit. Salzenstein received the award on Tuesday, June 22, during the organization’s annual meeting at Congregation Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield.
The Young Activist Award was established in 2009 by the Jewish Community Relations Council to recognize a young adult who has made a significant contribution to JCRC’s mission through either an individual project or a series of projects/activities. Salzenstein is the second recipient of the award and is being recognized for assisting Holocaust survivors in Southeastern Michigan in applying for and receiving compensation from the German government. He co-led the program in Southeastern Michigan and worked closely with Jewish Family Services of Metropolitan Detroit.
Salzenstein’s legal practice focuses on complex commercial litigation in state and federal court, including securities litigation, shareholder class actions, business torts, contracts, environmental class action defense, corporate internal investigations, landlord/tenant actions, trademark litigation and general commercial disputes.
He was named in 2009 by Crain’s Detroit Business in its “40 under 40” list. Salzenstein has also been recognized by Michigan Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in 2009 and 2010 and earned the Burton Award for Legal Achievement in 2002.
Salzenstein earned a law degree from Wayne State University and a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Michigan.

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers is proud to announce the election of Terrence J. Miglio of the law firm of Keller Thoma PC as a newly elected Fellow.
The fifteenth installation of Fellows will be conducted Nov. 6 in Chicago, coincident with the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section’s Continuing Legal Education Conference. With the current installation, the College is represented by almost eleven hundred members in forty-three states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada.
The College was the vision of a number of the Fellows. The idea was to further establish this profession in all its aspects as one uniquely important to the world of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of The American Bar Association. It operates as a free standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.

Miller Canfield principal David M. Thoms has been elected to a one-year term as president of the board of directors of Alliance Françaises de Grosse Pointe.
At Miller Canfield, Thoms is a member of the Personal Services Group and co-leader of the Nonprofit and Charitable Organizations Group. He concentrates his practice in estate planning and tax, non-profit organizations, business entity planning and tax, succession planning, and real estate.
He earned his law degree from Wayne State University School of Law and the University of Detroit-Mercy, a M.U.P. (Masters of Urban Planning) from Wayne State University, and a B.A. in History from Kalamazoo College. He also attended l’Université de Caen, France.
Additionally, Miller Canfield principal Beverly Hall Burns was appointed to serve a two-year term on the board of directors of the Michigan State University Alumni Association (MSUAA), effective July 1, 2010, representing the MSU College of Arts and Letters.
The MSUAA is a nationwide organization with more than 35,000 members who support the university in student recruitment, legislative advocacy, leadership, regional clubs and constituent groups.
Burns was a member of the MSUAA national board from 2003-2006 and has served her constituent group, MSU College of Arts and Letters, for six years including two years as chair.
She earned her B.A. in English from Michigan State University and her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
At Miller Canfield, Burns is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Group, representing and advocating for employers, whether at the negotiating table, in hearings, in board rooms, or community gatherings. She is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers for her work as a labor and employment attorney.
Also, Miller Canfield principal Donald J. Hutchinson recently spoke on commercial real estate bankruptcies at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 17th Annual Central States Bankruptcy Workshop in Traverse City.
At Miller Canfield’s Detroit office, Hutchinson represents secured and unsecured creditors and creditors’ committees in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and in bankruptcy-related litigation, with a focus on defending bankruptcy preference claims and other avoidance actions brought against suppliers and creditors.

Brian H. Rolfe, a business, litigation and family lawyer, was elected to the board of directors of Kemp Klein Law Firm. Rolfe has been helping business owners, families and individuals solve their legal problems for nearly 15 years.

Wayne State University Law School congratulates Arthur Neef Law Library Director Virginia C. Thomas on her recent election as vice-president/president-elect of the Michigan Association of Law Libraries (MichALL). She will hold the position for the 2010-11 term.
As vice-president/president elect, Thomas will serve as a member of the MichALL executive board and chair MichALL’s education committee, which is responsible for planning the organization’s annual meeting programs and other activities that advance continuing education of Michigan law librarians. She will become president of MichALL for a one-year term at the close of the 2011 annual meeting.
MichALL, a chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries, was formed in 1979 to promote law librarianship, foster a spirit of cooperation among members of the profession, and develop and increase the usefulness of law libraries.
Thomas joined Wayne Law and the Wayne State University Library System as the Arthur Neef Law Library director in February 2009. As director, Thomas is responsible for overseeing one of the nation’s 30 largest legal collections.
Prior to her current role, she was employed as Law Library and Information Technology director at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she also served as an adjunct law professor. Previously, Thomas held positions at the University of Miami School of Law, Loyola University of Chicago School of Law and the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Thomas earned her B.A. in philosophy and German language and literature from DePaul University, an M.B.A. and law degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and an M.A. in library science from the University of Chicago. She has taught, lectured and coordinated instructional support in law and is currently developing a course in empirical legal research. The author of numerous publications and presentations, Thomas is active in professional and community service activities and organizations.

Bodman LLP was recognized by the Pro Bono Initiative of the State Bar of Michigan as a member of the “Pro Bono Circle of Excellence” for 2010 for significantly exceeding voluntary standards set by the State Bar of Michigan.
Those named in the “Pro Bono Circle of Excellence” demonstrated their full compliance with the Voluntary Pro Bono Standard through donations of reduced fee or no-fee work or financial aid donations to legal aid programs.
In 2009, Bodman attorneys, paralegals and summer associates devoted $4,389 hours to pro bono projects, and the firm and its attorneys contributed nearly $128,000 to eligible charities. In addition to pro bono hours, Bodman attorneys devoted more than 1,500 hours to community service projects through service as directors or volunteers with numerous nonprofit organizations.
On average, each attorney recognized in the “Pro Bono Circle of Excellence” has contributed at least 30 hours of counsel or representation to low-income individuals and families or to organizations that provide legal services, or has donated at least $300 to a nonprofit program organized to deliver civil legal services to low-income individuals.
The Pro Bono Circle of Excellence recognizes law firms and corporate legal departments that have met the State Bar of Michigan’s voluntary pro bono standard which recognizes both hours devoted to pro bono representation and cash donations made to eligible charitable causes. In addition to pro bono hours, Bodman attorneys devoted more than 1,500 hours to community service projects through service as directors or volunteers with numerous nonprofit organizations.

Butzel Long attorneys Phillip C. Korovesis and Bernard J. Fuhs have co-authored a guest article on non-compete agreements that appeared in the June 30th edition of The Voice, a publication of The Voice of the Defense Bar, a national organization of more than 22,500 defense trial lawyers and corporate counsel. The article responds to the growing number of critics seeking to limit or prevent the enforcement of non-compete agreements.
Based in Butzel Long’s Detroit office, Korovesis is a Litigation Practice Group leader and chair of the firm’s Non-Compete and Trade Secret Practice Group, which focuses on trade secret, non-compete and business tort litigation.
Korovesis’ practice is focused on commercial disputes, with trial, litigation and consultation expertise in the following areas: non-compete/trade secret, product liability defense, life insurance claims, business disputes and securities related disputes.
Korovesis was recently elected vice president of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) for 2010-2011.
Also based in the firm’s Detroit office, Fuhs concentrates his practice in the areas of business litigation and general corporate law.

Julie I. Fershtman co-authored a section on recent developments in tort and insurance law that has just been published in the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal, Winter 2010.
Fershtman is currently vice president of the State Bar of Michigan and a vice-chair of a committee of the ABA. She is also a Trustee of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. She has tried cases before juries in four states. A frequent author and lecturer, she is the author of three books and more than 200 published articles. She has also lectured in 27 states.
Fershtman focuses her law practice on business litigation, insurance law, recreational liability, and equine law. She is currently Of Counsel to the law firm of Zausmer, Kaufman, August, Caldwell, & Tayler PC. A member of the State Bar Michigan since 1986, she received her undergraduate and law degrees from Emory University.

Dykema recently announced the addition of Robyn Radomski as chief marketing officer (CMO), resident in the firm’s Chicago and Detroit offices. In her new role, Radomski will direct all aspects of Dykema’s marketing and business development, client and media relations, communications and promotional activities. She joins the firm following CMO positions at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, S.C., and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, LLP.
As CMO of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, Radomski played a leading role in the growth and evolution of that firm, which doubled in size, number of clients and profitability during her tenure. In addition, she was instrumental in Sonnenschein’s creation of a charter school on Chicago’s impoverished West Side as the firm’s centerpiece project for their centennial anniversary.
She has held executive positions at several global businesses and served as senior vice president at Edelman Worldwide where she was managing director of the Corporate and Financial Practice Group.
Programs under Radomski’s direction have won nearly every major award for marketing, advertising and public relations leadership. She was selected as CMO of the Year at the Law Firm Marketing Partner Forum and her integrated marketing programs have won Best of Show from the Legal Marketing Association.
A frequent speaker on law firm marketing matters, Radomski earned a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A from Kellstadt School of Business, DePaul University.
