Five attorneys – Bruce A. Courtade, Robert J. Buchanan, Dennis M. Barnes, Brian D. Einhorn, and Edward L. Haroutunian – won contested seats in this year’s State Bar of Michigan Board of Commis-

Courtade won in District C, representing Clare, Gladwin, Isabella, Kent, Mecosta, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, and Ottawa Counties. He is a shareholder with Rhoades McKee in Grand Rapids, where he practices primarily commercial litigation and construction law. He currently serves as secretary of the Board of Commissioners, and is in line to become its president in 2012.
Buchanan also won in District C. In 1995 he co-founded the firm of Buchanan and Buchanan and currently serves as its managing partner. He has served on the Representative Assembly since 2002 and has chaired its Special Issues, Assembly Review, Hearings, and Drafting committees. He has also served on the executive council of the Young Lawyers Section and as a fellow of the MI State Bar Foundation.
Barnes won in District H, representing Lenawee, Monroe, and Wayne Counties. He practices in business litigation, and is past president of the Federal Bar Association’s Eastern District of Michigan Chapter.
Einhorn won in District I, representing Oakland County. Einhorn practices with Collins, Einhorn, Farrell & Ulanoff and has tried more than 100 cases to verdict. He was elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2004 and was elected treasurer by the commissioners in 2009.
Edward L. Haroutunian also won in District I. He practices with Haroutunian Licata Haroutunian, PC, in Bingham Farms. He served as clerk, vice chair, and chair of the State Bar Representative Assembly from 2001-2007, which was his second stint on the Assembly.
Two attorneys won uncontested races for the 32-member Board of Commissioners. They are James N. Erhart of Petoskey, who won in District A representing 38 counties in northern lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula; and Julie A.
