Creating 'a sense of community'

Wayne State University Law School students, faculty and staff members recently gathered recently for Wayne Law's inaugural Service Day. The event took place at Motor City Blight Busters in Detroit's Artist Village. More than 30 volunteers pulled weeds, hauled trash and cleared debris in an effort to refurbish the city. Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman (fifth from left in top row) posed with students, faculty and staff members during Service Day. "This was truly a remarkable effort," said Felicia Thomas, event coordinator and director of Recruitment and Enrollment. "Everyone really pulled together and put forth 100 percent effort on this project. This day was not about the glitz and glamour of the legal profession, but about carrying out our mission, creating a sense of community within Wayne Law and supporting the efforts of those who are invested in building a new Detroit.”
