Spotlight shines on 'Champion for Justice'

Lisa Stadig Elliot, executive director of the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA), has been selected this year’s Champion for Justice award winner by Common Ground Legal Services and the Family Law Assistance Project (FLAP).
Elliot will be honored during the Champions for Justice Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 8 for her tireless efforts advocating for pro-bono representation and expanded family law services to low-income residents in Oakland County.
Previous Champions for Justice award recipients, Oakland Circuit Court Judge Joan Young and Probate Court Judge Elizabeth Pezzetti, will present Elliot the 2010 award during the luncheon, which will be held at the Auburn Hills Campus of Cooley Law School from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Past president of the Oakland County Bar Association, Donald McGinnis Jr., will serve as master of ceremonies.
Common Ground and FLAP work together to help people find the solutions they are seeking through free legal advice, support referral, and direct representation.
The two groups partner with the legal community to enlist volunteer attorneys and law students to help provide vital services to those dealing with family law issues.
“Lisa is being recognized for her assistance in strengthening the partnership through her innovative approaches to assisting those in need,” said Jim Perlaki, Common Ground’s vice president of External Relations. “She has encouraged pro-bono representation among the county’s legal community and has advocated for expanded family law services to low income residents. She is an excellent choice for this year’s award.”
Although seating is limited, tickets for the Champion for Justice luncheon are still available.  Ticket prices are $75 per person or $30 for students.
