UDM Law Federalist Society to hold debate Nov. 4
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will hold a Federalist Society event on Thursday, Nov. 4. “On the Border: A Debate on the Arizona Law and the Future of Immigration Reform” will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the Atrium of the School of Law located at 651 East Jefferson Avenue in downtown Detroit.
Arguments will be presented by Dr. James Carafano, director of the Center for Foreign Policy Studies and deputy director of the Institute for International Studies at the Heritage Foundation, and UDM Law’s Andrew Moore, professor of Human Rights, Immigration and International Law. The debate will focus on the political and legal effects of the recent Arizona immigration legislation (SB 1070) and the future of immigration reform.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation. There is no charge for this event, and it is open to the public.
Retirement party set for Circuit Court judge Jack McDonald
A retirement party for Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jack McDonald will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at The Reserve, 325 South Eton, in Birmingham.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner scheduled at 7 o’clock, the program at 8, and dessert at 9.

A member of the Circuit Court bench since 1993, Judge Jack McDonald served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for seven terms. An alumnus of the Detroit College of Law, Judge McDonald is a former assistant prosecutor in Oakland County.

The Fifth Keith Biennial Lecture, An Evening with Harry Belafonte, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, has been canceled. The Biennial Lecture will be rescheduled.
