The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The Wayne County Probate Court will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, and will re-open on Tuesday, January 18 at 8 a.m.
MLK Day Breakfast at Cooley Law School-Auburn Hills
Cooley Law School will celebrate Martin Luther King Day with a Martin Luther King Equal Access to Justice Day Breakfast Monday, Jan. 17, 9-11:30 a.m. at the school's Auburn Hills campus, 2630 Featherstone Road. The event will include the awarding of the 2011 Equal Access to Justice Award to Cooley Associate Professor Stevie Swanson, an announcement of the winners in the State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section Essay Competition Award for grades 1-12, and a panel discussion.
LAD to hold civil legal services clinics at H.O.P.E. Center
Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) will conduct free outreach clinics on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the city of Detroit, on Wednesday, Jan. 12 and Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at H.O.P.E. Center, 33222 Groesbeck Highway, Fraser.
Attendees are asked to register before 10:00 a.m., as LAD staff will assist only those persons who have registered by that time.

Journalist to moderate forum exploring Islam in America
To present a more balanced perspective on Islam and its practitioners, and what it means to be a Muslim in southeast Michigan, David Crumm, journalist and former religion writer for The Detroit Free Press and now editor of www.ReadTheSpirit.com and Read TheSpirit Books, will moderate a forum “Differences without Divisions: Islam in America,” set for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the Chelsea District Library, 221 S. Main St. in Chelsea. A Young People’s Forum will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the library, with a film focusing on being Muslim and a discussion facilitated by students from the U-M Muslim Student Association.More information can be found at the One World One Family website at www.owof.com or call the Chelsea District Library at (734) 475-8732.
