Former Kitch lawyer, Fuca, sworn in as 41(B) District Court judge
Carrie Lynn Fuca, a former Kitch firm attorney, was sworn in as district judge on Monday, Jan. 10. Fuca will serve as 41(B) District Court judge, covering Clinton Township, Harrison Township and Mt. Clemens. Her term lasts six years.
Prior to her election, Fuca served of counsel to Kitch (2008-10). An experienced litigator, Fuca handled civil and criminal cases. She also argued cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court.
Fuca earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from Michigan State University and a law degree from Wayne State University. An active volunteer for many charitable organizations, Fuca also served as a Charter Commissioner for Macomb County prior to her election.
“Carrie became a judge the hard way; she wasn’t appointed, and she didn’t have a family history of judges to give her name recognition,” said Ron Wagner, Kitch firm managing principal. She went out and worked to create a name for herself.”
36th District Court to honor Drug Treatment Court participants
The 36th District Court will honor Drug Treatment Court participants during the court’s 47th Graduation at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. The ceremony will be attended by 36th District Court Chief Judge Marylin E. Atkins, Drug Treatment Judge Leonia J. Lloyd, and the Drug Treatment Court team. More than 24 men and women are expected to graduate. The ceremony marks the completion of an intensive 15 -24 month program of comprehensive drug treatment, close supervision and full accountability.
This marks the court’s 47th ceremony since it was founded in 1998. In 2006 the National Association of Drug Court Professionals rated the 36th District Drug Treatment Court the “Second Best Drug Treatment Court” in the Nation. A brief reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
Cooley looking for attorneys to serve as mock interviewers
The Career and Professional Development Department at Thomas M. Cooley Law School - Ann Arbor is in need of volunteer attorneys to conduct mock interviews with the students any time during February and the first two weeks of March. The time commitment is two hours during which time the attorney will conduct four mock interviews of 30 minutes each. Cooley will provide the interview questions.
