Examining public corruption cases

Cooley Law School’s Criminal Law Society presented “Investigation and Prosecution of Public Corruption Cases” with (left to right) Mark Chutkow and R. Michael Bullotta, assistant U.S. attorneys involved in the prosecution of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on RICO violations. The program was conducted recently at Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus and was videoconferenced to the law school’s Ann Arbor campus. Chutkow has been an assistant U.S. attorney since 1997. Currently, he is a member of the Special Prosecutions Unit in the Detroit U.S. Attorney’s Office, prosecuting civil rights offenses, public corruption and environmental crimes. Bullotta began his law career as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. In 1997, he was appointed an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles by then Attorney General Janet Reno. As a federal prosecutor in L.A., he prosecuted domestic and international drug trafficking cartels. Bullotta currently works in the Detroit U.S. Attorney’s Office where he prosecutes public corruption cases.
