Karr named chair of Grand Rapids Community Foundation board
The Grand Rapids Community Foundation (GRCF) announced that attorney Carol J. Karr will chair its Board of Trustees. Karr is no stranger to the GRCF, having been appointed to that board in 2008. Prior to that she served on its Professional Advisory Committee for many years.
Karr is the chair of Miller Johnson’s preeminent Probate and Estate Planning Practice Group. She has been practicing law since 1978 and earned her J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. She is also a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a prestigious professional association.
Karr has been honored by Grand Rapids Business Journal as one of the “50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan,” and received a YWCA Tribute! Award for her leadership and community involvement.
She is actively involved with other professional associations and community organizations including serving on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan YMCA and the Board of Metro Health Hospital Foundation. She participates in the pro bono program of Legal Aid of Western Michigan.
The Grand Rapids Community Foundation Board of Trustees is a wholly board-appointed model which is the accepted practice in the community foundation field and helps to remove potential conflicts of interest. The foundation was founded in 1922 and became Michigan’s first community foundation. Their mission is to build and manage our community's permanent endowment and lead the community to strengthen the lives of its people.
