Examining real estate issues

The State Bar of Michigan Real Property Law Section (RLPS) will offer two professional learning and networking opportunities this spring and summer.

The first event is a Groundbreakers Breakfast Roundtable called “Show Me the Money: Non-Traditional Financing Alternatives.”

It will take place from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 14 at the Detroit Athletic Club, located at 241 Madison Ave.

The program, co-sponsored by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, will feature knowledgeable leaders in two roundtable discussions and a panel presentation.

They will cover information on resources available to real estate professionals through various government-sponsored programs.

Discussion leaders will also address program descriptions and eligibility requirements for the many financing tools available to the real estate industry.

Advance registration fees are $65 for RLPS members and $85 for everyone else. Registration at the door will cost $10 more.

More information and registration forms can be found on the SBM website at http://www.michbar.org/realproperty/roundtables.cfm.

The RLPS will also host its 36th annual summer conference, “Finding the Silver Lining: Real Estate Opportunities Arising from the Economic Crisis,” from July 20-23 at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa near Traverse City.

Programs and workshops will include such topics as how to fit social media into your practice, current asset dispositions, key tax and business strategies for ownership of real estate, buying property at short sales and foreclosure auctions, lease restructuring, commercial foreclosure, and a special presentation by Michigan Public Radio Senior Political Analyst Jack Lessenberry, “The Business of Making Law: Politics in the Wolverine State at the Dawn of the Snyder Era.”

Prior to May 13, the registration fee is $250 for Real Property Law Section members who are also first-time attendees, $295 for other Real Property Law Section members and $345 for non-section members.

Members of the Young Lawyers Section can register for $100. After May 14 the fees will increase by $45 to $55.

More information and registration forms can be found on the SBM website at www.michbar.org/realproperty/summerconf.cfm.
