Drug Court celebrates National Drug Court Month with graduation
In celebration of “National Drug Court Month,” the Third Judicial Circuit - Adult Drug Treatment Court will hold its annual commencement at noon on May 16 at The Salvation Army, Adult Rehabilitation Center, located at 1627 W. Fort St.
Recording artist Kem will deliver the keynote address.
This is the court’s 7th formal ceremony since it was founded in 2003. Twenty-eight participants are expected to be recognized at this year’s graduation.
The ceremony marks the completion of an intensive program of comprehensive drug treatment, close supervision, educational services (including G.E.D. and Relapse Prevention courses) and full accountability.
“National Drug Court Month” is coordinated on a national level by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), which was established in 1994 to assist in the planning, implementation, and operation of Drug Courts.
This year, Drug Courts throughout the nation are celebrating National Drug Court Month with the theme: “Drug Courts: A Proven Budget Solution.”
Nationally, Drug Courts provide vast savings to the criminal justice system. A recent study by the Department of Justice found a cost/benefit of $3.36 for every $1 invested in treating drug-addicted offenders under the watchful eye of Drug Court.
