NY man strikes out again in paternity case
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Supreme Court won’t hear an appeal from a New York lawyer who has failed to get parental rights to his daughter in Michigan.
It’s an unusual case. Anthony Pecoraro of the Buffalo, N.Y., area has been denied paternity because Gina Rostagno-Wallat was married to another man at the time of the girl’s birth in 2002.
A lower court told Pecoraro that Michigan law says a child born during marriage belongs to the married couple — even if he is the biological father.
Pecoraro’s appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court led to a 3-3 tie among the justices last week. A tie means the appeals court decision stands. Justice Brian Zahra didn’t participate because he heard the case when he was on the appeals court.
WLAM Foundation holds 4th annual Culinary Challenge
It’s time again for the members of the judiciary to trade their robes for aprons and step up to the culinary challenge. The WLAM Foundation will hold its 4th Annual Culinary Challenge on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the home of Honorable Kirsten Frank Kelly, Michigan Court of Appeals. All profits will be donated to WLAM Foundation Scholarship Fund, Alternatives for Girls, and Crossroads for Youth.
At the last three events, judges, magistrates and referees battled it out for the title of “Best Judicial Chef” in two categories of competition: appetizers and desserts. More than 30 members of the judiciary attended the event. Judicial chefs can again choose to make an appetizer or dessert.
