The Federal Bar Association (FBA) Book Club hosted a discussion on “The Eyes of Willie McGee” by Alex Heard on Thursday, May 26, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit.
Andrew Doctoroff of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, & Cohn LLP was among those discussing the book.
“It’s about an African American man who was convicted of rape in 1945, repeatedly retried and repeatedly sentenced to death and it looks at the legal, factual, social, political, and other factors that contributed to his incarceration, sentencing, and, ultimately, execution,” Doctoroff detailed. “It provides a way of looking at our legal system through the prism of everything that impacts and influences that system.”
