The partners and employees of Pepper Hamilton LLP’s Detroit office contributed $10,000 to establish the Scott L. Gorland Scholarship Fund in support of Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) a non-profit organization committed to the academic success of at-risk youth in metropolitan Detroit.
Gorland, recently retired, was a litigation partner at Pepper for 27 years.
He has been a devoted supporter of Boys Hope Girls Hope for almost two decades, sharing his wisdom as a mentor as well as serving as their board chairman.
“All of us at Pepper Detroit admired Scott’s devotion to Boys Hope Girls Hope” said Abe Singer, leader of the Litigation Group.
“We miss Scott’s daily presence and wanted to honor his long-time commitment to the organization by establishing this scholarship in his name.”
The scholarship will be used to support BHGH’s residential scholarship program designed for at-risk youth with strong academic capability.
The program provides youth the structure and home stability they need to successfully matriculate through a college-preparatory environment while developing leadership skills.
“I am humbled by this gift from Pepper Hamilton in honor of Scott Gorland, an individual who has demonstrated his commitment to youth and education in a very tangible way” said Jennifer Smith, executive director of Boys Hope Girls Hope. “The resources needed for our organization to serve more youth are great and this gift brings us closer to our goal.”
