Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Robert C. Timmons to the Workers’ Compensation Board of Magistrates.
The Workers' Compensation Board of Magistrates hears administrative claims for benefits and resolve disputes arising under the Workers' Disability Compensation Act.
“Robert brings years of experience and knowledge handling workers’ compensation issues and I look forward to his contributions to the board,” Snyder said.
Timmons is in private practice with the Grand Rapids firm Robert C. Timmons, PC. He previously served as managing partner for Boyden, Timmons, Dilley & Haney, PC and Boyden, Waddell, Timmons & Dilley, PC. He specialized in complex litigation, civil litigation, personal injury, agribusiness, white collar criminal litigation and transactional law. Timmons also served as a special assistant attorney general in the defense of state funds administration.
Timmons previously served as past chairman of the Cascade Township Planning Commission and the Cascade Township Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Association, the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and served on the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Timmons also served as a Hearing Referee for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Western Michigan University and a law degree from the University of Miami Law School where he also was a student instructor of legal research and writing and moot court.
Timmons will serve the remainder of a term expiring January 26, 2013 and replaces George Jay Quist. The appointment is subject to advice and consent of the Senate.
Timmons received his bachelors degree from Western Michigan University and his J.D. from the University of Miami, where he served on the University of Miami Law Review. He has authored or co-authored articles on negligence in Florida and Michigan, and served as Special Assistant to the Michigan Attorney General from 1976 to the present, and as Trial Counsel, Michigan Bar Attorney Grievance Commission from 1981 to the present. He also serves as a Hearing Referee for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission and is a member of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
