Attorney General Schuette recall effort stalls, at least for now
MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — An effort to start a recall against Attorney General Bill Schuette has failed, at least temporarily.
The three-member Midland County Election Commission voted unanimously Monday to reject recall petition language against Schuette.
The Saginaw News reports that the effort is related to what the recall organizer calls Schuette’s “insubordination” toward state voters who approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Richard Clement belongs to the Michigan chapter of NORML, a marijuana advocacy group. He says he’ll submit a new petition with clearer language.
Schuette’s office says the recall effort is backed by “fringe element” aimed at making the attorney general “a poster boy in its fight against local police and prosecutors who are working overtime to do their jobs in the wake of this poorly drafted law.”
Longtime attorney joins firm in Bloomfield Hills
Gordon Snavely — a prominent attorney specializing in estate planning, probate work, and real estate law — will become of counsel to the firm of Witzke, Berry & Carter, PLLC in Bloomfield Hills this week.

A native of Royal Oak, Snavely earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Detroit, and began practicing law in 1968.
Last fall, Snavely was honored by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for “extraordinary voluntary contributions and unparalleled service to Oakland County” for his work as chairman of the Claims Review Committee.
The five-member panel reviews matters where the potential legal exposure to the county exceeds $25,000 in damages, and typically meets on a quarterly basis.
In addition to his work with the Claims Review Committee, Snavely has served on the Oakland County Zoological Authority and the Central Michigan University Development Board, and has taught real estate law at Oakland University.
He and his wife, Mary Jo, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last year and have three grown children.
