Miller Canfield attorney named officer in ABA Superfund/Natural Resource Damages Committee

Miller Canfield principal Brad H. Sysol (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was recently appointed as Public Service Vice Chair for the American Bar Association (ABA) Superfund and Natural Resource Damages Litigation Committee for 2011-2012.

As Public Service Vice Chair, Sysol will serve on the Public Service Task Force and become a key point of contact between the Section and its members encouraging them to participate in existing and future public service projects and will be responsible for implementing the Committee’s Action Plan for the duration of the year.

 Sysol is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer focusing on complex commercial and environmental litigation. He has handled bench and jury trials and appeals before the Michigan Supreme Court and courts of appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Sysol received his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and B.S.B.A. from Florida Institute of Technology.

Thacker is first West Michigan female to chair State Bar Family Law Council


Connie R. Thacker, an equity shareholder with Rhoades McKee, was elected to serve as the Chair of the State Bar (SBM) Family Law Council. She is the first female attorney from West Michigan elected since the establishment of the council in 1980.

Thacker is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a member of the ICLE Family Law Advisory Board and Co-Chair of SBM’s Alternative Family Law Committee. She is a current member of the Michigan Council for Family and Divorce Mediation. A recipient of the ICLE Family Certificate Program, Thacker has been recognized by her peers in Best Lawyers and Family Law.

Thacker concentrates her practice in the areas of litigated and non-litigated family law matters, including business valuations, custody, and parenting time cases throughout Western Michigan, as well as in estate planning for traditional and non-traditional families. Thacker is a trained and certified mediator of family law cases and is certified in domestic violence screening.

She received her B. A. in Jurisprudence from University of Baltimore and graduated cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
