Michigan's Department of Natural Resources has announced that a Jackson native, Kathleen Eriksen, has been named head of the DNR's Marketing and Outreach Division.
Eriksen returns to Michigan after working in California for a local economic development group.
Eriksen, originally from Jackson, has more than 14 years of experience working in economic development and marketing for Michigan and California communities.
She comes back to Michigan after a stint as executive director of Downtown Ventura Partners in Ventura, Calif.
Prior to that, she worked as the downtown development director for the Battle Creek Downtown Partnership from 2003 to 2009, and as executive director of the Downtown Development Authority in Jackson from 1997 to 2003.
''Kathleen brings a wealth of marketing expertise to the DNR as we move into a more comprehensive strategy to attract more people to outdoor recreation,'' said DNR Director Rodney Stokes.
''We will rely on her skills to help us reach new audiences, strengthen our relationship with our current constituents and move the Department forward in retaining and recruiting customers.''
Eriksen has a bachelor's degree in management and organizational development from Spring Arbor University. She has received many awards and grants for her work helping communities with economic development.
The Marketing and Outreach Division of the DNR encompasses many services to the Department and its external customers, including marketing; hunter and angler recruitment and retention programs; visitor centers; education programs; shooting ranges; and the DNR's Retail Sales System for license purchasing.
