He attended Archbishop John Carroll High School. He attained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Detroit, then went on to receive his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law.

Huckabay began his law career at Plunkett and Cooney and then, 30 years ago, founded his own firm, Siemion, Huckabay, Bodary and Morganti.

He is also survived by his children, Liz Chinonis (Tom), Katie Huckabay, and Jonathan Huckabay (Alexandra); his grandchildren John Thomas Chinonis, James Chinonis, and Kasey Chinonis; his parents Phyllis and Mahlon Norton; and his siblings George (Rebecca) and Lynn Foster (Jonathan). He was pre-deceased by his father, Carl Huckabay.
