Brown Floral has been in Jackson for four generations.
But its roof has only been famous for a year and a half.
Last spring, after months of debate about whether the building's new shingled sign had to go, the Jackson City Council unanimously amended the city's sign ordinance which allowed it.
''It got to be good advertising,'' said Chris Grostefon, co-owner (with her sister, Diane Jonas) of Brown Floral, about the debate. ''We couldn't have asked for more.''
She said she was amazed by the support from the community over the sign.
''I hadn't seen such solidarity in Jackson in forever,'' said Grostefon.
The amended ordinance restricts shingled roof signs to commercial and industrial districts, and thus has no effect on the sign on the roof of Brown Floral' which spells out "Brown" and "Since 1865" and features three flowers in colored shingles.
The business has been in the family for four generations.
