Cooley Law School promotes two at Lansing campus
Cooley Law School has announced two faculty promotions at its Lansing campus.
Lisa DeMoss was promoted to associate professor. She is the director of the Master of Laws Program in Insurance at Cooley. Previously, she was senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate compliance officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in Detroit. Before her tenure with Blue Cross Blue Shield, DeMoss was a partner in the Detroit, Mich., law firm of Fitzgerald Peters Dakmak and Bruno. While in private practice, she focused her career in the areas of product liability and insurance disputes. She earned her bachelor's degree with high honor at Michigan State University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School.
Dan Sheaffer was promoted to full professor. Prior to joining Cooley, he served as corporate tax counsel for Alticor Corp., in Ada, where he had the lead role in tax planning and tax advice for Alticor's Asian affiliates. He was also a senior adviser for Ernst & Young LLP in Grand Rapids, where he worked on international issues for a wide range of clients. Sheaffer also served as the only tax associate in the 50-person firm of Wishart Norris Henninger & Pittman in Burlington, N.C. He earned his bachelor's from Western Michigan University, his J.D. magna cum laude from Cooley Law School, and his LL.M from the University of Florida.
