Attorney Carol A. Kuhnke announces candidacy for 22nd Circuit Court Judge

Attorney Carol A. Kuhnke has announced her candidacy to fill the Circuit Court seat that will be vacated by Judge Melinda Morris at the end of 2012. Kuhnke, a Milan native, has practiced law in the private sector for 18 years, and as a partner at Davis & Kuhnke, PC in Ann Arbor for the last 15 years. ''I have 18 years of rigorous courtroom training for the job, and I am fortunate to have earned the respect of lawyers I have worked with and against, not to mention the appreciation and gratitude of my clients," Kuhnke said in a statement. "A judge must possess integrity and compassion, a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to fairness. I have those qualities and know that I am the right candidate for the job.'' Kuhnke graduated from Milan High School in 1986, from the University of Michigan with dual majors in philosophy and history of art in 1990, and from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1993. Kuhnke has worked in all levels of state courts, from the district court to the Supreme Court, and has handled both civil and criminal cases, as well as divorce and probate. Most of her practice has been representing people seeking justice, usually against insurance companies and large corporations. Kuhnke, ranked by Thomson Reuters as a Super Lawyer, has been a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association, Washtenaw Association for Justice, and Michigan Association for Justice, among other organizations. She is a past president of the Washtenaw Association for Justice, has served on numerous committees of the Michigan Association for Justice, and is dedicated to pro bono work. Kuhnke was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals in 1999 and became chairperson in 2006. She also served on the Washtenaw County Board of Election Canvassers and the Downtown Zoning Advisory Committee. Her volunteer work includes the American Cancer Society, the Arthritis Foundation of Michigan, and Northside Elementary School. Kuhnke lives in Ann Arbor with her two children.
