The State Bar of Michigan has recognized the recently-formed, special purpose Albanian American Bar Association of Michigan (AABAM). The group was created to meet the growing presence and needs of Albanian American lawyers and law students in Michigan.
AABAM, which was founded by seven members, has grown to contain 34 members in less than six months.
The new bar association aims to provide assistance, networking and scholarship opportunities, as well as professional development, to people of Albanian descent in the legal profession. Detroit has one of the largest Albanian populations in the United States, and AABAM will also work to foster greater understanding of the Albanian community.
State Bar of Michigan President Julie Fershtman congratulated AABAM members for their initiative and focus.
"We are pleased to recognize the Albanian Bar and will support and join them in advancing common goals such as promoting justice, goodwill, fellowship and cooperation with other bar associations," she said.
AABAM is led by President Diana Shkreli, Vice President Ina Agaj, Secretary Suzanna Shkreli and Treasurer Shaghayegh Ramezanian. The new bar association is open to all who share its goals. For more information, contact Diana Shkreli at shkreli.diana@gmail.com or visit AABAM's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ALBANIANAMERICANBARASSOCIATION.
