Wayne County Circuit Court starts second phase of e-filing project
Wayne County Circuit Court is launching the second phase of its e-filing project for court cases. The court will increase the scope of its e-filing project to include almost all of its commercial litigation starting on May 21.

Anyone will be able to file documents with Wayne County Circuit Court from virtually anyplace with Internet access at any time of day.  Since the project’s inception, more than 12,000 documents in contract cases have been filed electronically.

Chief Judge Virgil C. Smith explained, “E-filing provides improved customer service and cost effective administration that saves scarce tax payer dollars. This innovative new system includes free registration through an easy self-service process, 24 hour-a-day filing, multiple courtesy copies at no additional charge, and the elimination of printing, copying, packaging, and delivery of paper documents.”

The court and the Wayne County Clerk have set up e-filing kiosks, which are available in Room 201 of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. There, all users will have access to a computer and scanner.

Training sessions for the public will be held online. For further information on registering for training sessions and e-filing rules, visit the Third Judicial Circuit Court website at www.3rdcc.org.

Soultivity seeking votes in American Bar’s Battle of the Lawyer Bands
Michigan’s all-lawyer band, Soultivity, is one of five bands that have advanced to the next  round of the Battle of the Lawyer Bands Contest to be held at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Voting is now open to the general public and will end on Friday, June 1 at 5 p.m.

Based upon the voting, the three top vote getters will be invited to play at the President's Reception at the Art Institute of Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Prizes will be awarded to each band as follows: First Place - $5,000, Second Place - $2,500, Third Place - $1,000.

Soultivity members have agreed to donate the money to the Washtenaw County Bar Association’s Law and Justice Fund, which promotes affordable and meaningful access to the justice system in Washtenaw County.

Washtenaw County Assistant Prosecutor John Reiser, who sings and plays keyboard with the band, says that getting together with the eight other attorneys to play music has been a lot of fun.

“Since all of our gigs have been for various charities, and mainly attended by our friends, we’ve been blessed by very kind audiences,” he says.

Soultivity groupies are urged to send the link to friends and relatives, and post it on Facebook.
