Monday Profile: Jason Herter
Jason Herter served four years in the United States Air Force after graduating from Monroe Jefferson High School. From there, he spent several years pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees at Eastern Michigan University while working for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, and as a local home builder.
For the past four years, Herter has been an in-home intervention specialist/night surveillance officer for Washtenaw County.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Lying in a comfortable bed during a thunderstorm while watching an old movie. And don't forget lots of eats.
What is your greatest fear? Not being prepared.
Which living person do you most admire? Any mother who has her child's best interest at heart.
What is the trait you hate most in yourself? Too sensitive.
What is the trait you hate most in others? When one is artificial.
What is your most treasured possession? I do not have anything I would not sell trade or give away.
What would surprise people about your job? The intervention and surveillance team checks probationers inside their homes from 2 to 10:30 p.m. daily, and in one year's time, the combined miles travels throughout the county is the equivalent of driving three times around the world.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue? The quantity of one's work experience can be overrated. I lean towards quality.
When and where were you happiest? When I got this job.
What's your greatest achievement: Finishing my first draft for my masters program.
What would you say to your 16-year-old self? I would convince myself that spending more than I make is a mistake.
What would be your ideal job? Owner/operator of a youth challenge camp.
What one thing do you wish people knew about your work? That it is the best job in the court.
What one habit do you wish you could break? Eating sweets daily.
What do you wish more people understood? How to merge onto a highway.
If you could have dinner with three people, living or dead, who would they be? Marilyn Monroe, Scarlett Johansson and Jesus.
Who is your favorite character of fiction? Spiderman.
Favorite movie: True Grit. The first one.
What's one thing you can do now that you couldn't do 20 years ago? Build a house.
What is your motto? Give more than you get.
Where would you like to be when you're 90? Still among friends.
