The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section will host a workshop called “Think Fast! Boot Camp for New Lawyers” at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 at Go Comedy! Improv Theatre, located at 261 E. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale.
The workshop will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m., and will focus on teaching improvisational skills to new lawyers. Go Comedy! Improv Theatre owner PJ Jacokes and his staff of actors will teach the workshop, which will focus on “Trust and Learning to Fail,” and will teach participants how to respond to an unexpected or unwanted ruling in court. It will also focus on a concept that the improv world calls “Yes, and...” which involves working with answers (or rulings) that seem impossible or unexpected.
There will be a small informal dinner after the workshop for those who want to stay to see the 8 p.m. show. The show will give participants an opportunity to see the skills they have just learned being utilized by professionals.
The workshop will cost $10, and the show will cost $5. There is only space in the workshop for 25 participants, and they must register by May 5 at www.michbar.org/younglawyers/.
