MSU Dubai Campus in United Arab Emirates offers new program

EAST LANSING, MI -- Michigan State University College of Law will offer a new American Legal System for Foreign-Educated Lawyers and Professionals Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program at the MSU Dubai campus in the United Arab Emirates. Classes begin in fall 2012. The new program is specially designed for foreign professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of the American legal system and enhance their careers in their home countries. Students with a prior law degree may earn the LL.M. degree; those with a prior degree in another discipline may earn the M.J. degree. ''We have designed the MSU Dubai program to offer foreign lawyers and other professionals from around the world an opportunity to prepare themselves to practice effectively in tomorrow's world,'' said Bruce W. Bean, professor and director of the LL.M. for Foreign-Educated Lawyers program at MSU Law. Students are guided by expert faculty and staff who have lived and practiced abroad, and who are eager to work with foreign-trained professionals who bring their own diverse experiences and backgrounds to the Law College. ''Foreign lawyers and other professionals studying at MSU Dubai will enjoy a rich and rewarding experience with first-rate professors and a vibrant international community,'' said Michael Lawrence, MSU Law's associate dean for graduate and international programs. Classes are held at the MSU Dubai campus for one to two weeks every other month starting in August or September. The program's ''executive-style'' schedule will allow foreign students to live in their home countries and remain in their jobs while working toward the degree. MSU law professors will travel to Dubai to teach the courses. MSU Law's graduate program offerings at its home campus include the American Legal System for Foreign-Educated Lawyers LL.M. program, and LL.M. and M.J. degrees in Intellectual Property, Information & Communications Law.
