On May 14, the Detroit-area organization Charity Motors donated $10,000 to sponsor In Seventh Heaven, a yearly fundraising event to benefit a Detroit charity serving foster children.
In Seventh Heaven, to be held on June 30 at the Roostertail in Detroit, will support For The Seventh Generation, a Detroit-area program that matches children in foster care with volunteer service professionals and donated items ranging from glasses to prom dresses. The theme for this year's event is Magic and Music in Motown.
Charity Motors President Norman Yatooma said that the donation was an easy decision.
Yatooma, who lost his own father at a young age, said, "Charity work should always be collaborative, not competitive. Any charity genuinely interested in the support of children is a charity worthy of our community's support." Yatooma is also the founder of Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids, an organization which supports children who have lost a parent. The Foundation is named for Yatooma's father, Manuel, who passed away in 1993.
"As hard as it was for my brothers and I to lose our father, I know that children in foster care endure their own heart-wrenching challenges, not the least of which is having to rely on strangers to raise them," Yatooma said. "Just as my own non-profit organization, Yatooma's Foundation For The Kids, helps children who have lost a parent, For The Seventh Generation goes the extra mile to support children who may have no family at all. We're all proud to be a small part of this organization's effort to make a big difference."
"Norman Yatooma's career exemplifies the best of our profession -- in his career, and particularly in his work for children, Norman works to make the law truly serve our community," said For The Seventh Generation Executive Director and Lorraine H. Weber. "This generous gift puts us on sound footing to realize our fundraising goals for the In Seventh Heaven event, through which we plan to help even more foster children."
"Michigan's foster care system is able only to provide the very basic needs of the children in its care," said Kelly Ann Ramsey, co-founder of For The Seventh Generation and a candidate for Michigan's 3rd Circuit Court, "and we know that children need so much more than just food and shelter in order to go on to become productive members of our community. Organizations like For The Seventh Generation work to provide the services and experiences that help our foster children live full lives. We know that the work we do for them now benefits not only these children -- but also their children, down through the seventh generation."
Charity Motors joins individuals and organizations including the Schwartz Organization with Funky D Records and Matthew Belcher, who together have contributed a combined $16,000 to date in support of In Seventh Heaven.
In Seventh Heaven will begin at 7 pm on Saturday, June 30 at the Roostertail in downtown Detroit. The event will feature local musicians the Jill Jack Band and jazz ensemble Straight Ahead. Tickets are $100 per person and are available online at: www.fortheseventhgeneration.org/current-campaigns.php
For The Seventh Generation is a program of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation that supports foster children in southeast Michigan. For more information visit the organization's website at www.fortheseventhgeneration.org.
