The Lakeshore Alzheimer’s Association has teamed with Warner, Norcross and Judd (WNJ) partner David Waterstradt as well as Tony Tidswell of First Financial to bring legal and financial planning advice to those in the community dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The first workshop, held August 13, focused on legal matters and was presented by David Waterstradt, partner at WNJ and current Muskegon County Bar Association president. Waterstradt stressed the absolute necessity to have estate planning documents in order. The onset of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia and the care and costs associated with the disease create new dimensions to estate planning that many people do not think about when having estate planning done.
People need to take particular care that their future needs, both legal and financial, are taken care of when they are no longer able to manage their own affairs. Careful planning can avoid costly errors if a person is no longer mentally able to function for themselves.
Waterstradt’s presentation stressed the importance of early planning. This allows the parties involved to make informed decisions on complex issues. Early planning allows people with dementia maximum self-determination and a degree of choice.
The second workshop will be held August 27 at the Masonic Temple, 396 W. Clay Avenue from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Part 2 will focus on money matters and will be co-hosted by David Waterstradt and Tony Tidswell of First Financial.
Advance registration is requested and can be made by calling 1-800-272-3900. Anyone dealing with degenerative mind diseases is encouraged to attend.
