Race remains an autumn event

A spring staple for more than three decades, the Oakland County Bar Association’s “Race Judicata” sported an early autumn flavor last year, a change of pace that will be repeated in 2012 when the event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 23.

The 33rd annual event — which features 5-kilometer and 10-km races along with a 5-km walk — will be staged at Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, according to OCBA organizers.

This year’s event is being chaired by Meredith Taunt, while the vice chair is Wayne Kauffman.

The fun will begin at 9 a.m. with a 5-km walk, while the 5-km and 10-km runs will start at 9:30 at Andover High School, located off Long Lake Road near Telegraph.

Primary sponsors for this year’s event are Dean & Fulkerson; Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss; and Tower Computer Services.

Registration is available online at www.ocba.org.

The pre-registration deadline is Sept. 18, while race day registration will take place from 8-9 a.m. at Andover.

The cost of entering the runs is $15, while the entry fee for the walk is $10.

The costs increase by $5 on race day.

In addition to individual competition, the Race Judicata features team contests in the 5-km and 10-km events.

Teams must have a minimum of three runners, but no more than five.

The top three finishing times of team members will be used to calculate the overall mark.

Last year, a team from Jaffe won the 5-km competition, while a squad from Bodman took the 10-km title.

The Race Judicata, of course, is a play on words with the Latin term “res judicata,” which is short for a “matter judged.”
