Angela Jackson is a partner and shareholder with the law firm Hooper Hathaway, P.C. in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she has practiced since 1995. She litigates corporate and employment disputes and advises corporations and individuals on legal matters such as employment law, contract drafting and negotiations, trade secrets, non-compete agreements, and real estate and construction matters. Jackson is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 1995, and a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1990. Residence: Ann Arbor. What is your idea of perfect happiness?_ Sight fishing to large trout in beautiful and remote rivers. What is your greatest fear? Bears. That was true until I had my son. Now, my greatest fear is something bad happening to my son. Especially if it is inflicted by bears. What is the trait you hate most in yourself?_ I am quick to anger and can be overly harsh. What is the trait you hate most in others? Just one? Hypocrisy, dishonesty, selfishness, laziness, lack of accountability. They tend to belong to the same characters. If you suddenly had an extra room in your house, what would you do with it?_ Stuff it with delicious food and wine. What is your most treasured possession? I don't really treasure things much. I do love my home, but like everything else, it requires a lot of tweaking. If you could do one thing professionally ... Be the president. Your proudest moment(s) as a lawyer? Every trial and appellate victory makes me proud, but I really love getting thank you cards and tokens of appreciation from grateful clients. It's 7 a.m. Monday. How are you feeling? I'll let you know when I get up. What would surprise people about your job? That it's awesome and I look forward to going to work nearly every day. I work with an exceptionally nice and talented group of lawyers, staff and clients. Would you rather save money or time? I would give a lot of money to have more time, but really, I would probably just spend more time eating and I do not need that. Introvert or extrovert? Is there something beyond introvert? That would be me. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?_ Temperance. When and where were you happiest?_ I am happier the older I get. I'm expecting to hit sublime happiness in another twenty years or so. What's your greatest achievement: My education is the achievement I am most proud of. I wish I remembered more of it. What would you say You are not going to your 16-year-old self? You are not going to believe what I have in store for you. . . What would be your ideal job? What I do now without the hourly billing component. What one thing do you wish people knew about your work? I am endlessly fascinated by my clients' businesses. I love to look inside how the rest of the world works every day. What one habit do you wish you could break? Embarrassing myself. What is something most people don't know about you? My first job was milking cows when I was in fifth grade. My next job was a dishwasher in a restaurant where I moved up to hostess, and then waitress. Compared to the jobs I had as a kid, my current job is a piece of cake. What do you wish more people understood? How to be sensible. If you could have dinner with three people, living or dead, who would they be? My six-year-old son and my husband, Rick Juckniess, are great dinner companions. Other than the two of them, my deceased grandfather, his mother so I could learn the circumstance of their emigration from Mexico, and pretty much anyone who has summited Mt. Everest without being carried or dying. Who is your favorite character of fiction?_ It is too hard to pick a single favorite. Some of the characters I am particularly fond of are Edna Pontellier ("The Awakening"), Zoe ("Firefly"), Clytemnestra ("Aechylus"), Sula Peace ("Sula"), Seven of Nine ("Star Trek Voyager)", the Wife of Bath ("The Canterbury Tales)", Harry Potter, and, of course, Scout and Atticus Finch ("To Kill a Mockingbird"). Favorite words: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack. Favorite movie: "It's a Wonderful Life" is probably my favorite movie. That, or " Armageddon." I watch both at least once a year. What's one thing you can do now that you couldn't do 20 years ago? Rock climb. Not well, mind you, but yes, I can. What is your motto?_ I don't have a motto, but it would sound something like- Eat and drink well, work and play hard and fair, spend money and time helping, use your body and mind the way they were intended, and always get a good night sleep.
