36th District Court closed on Election Day
The 36th District Court will be closed to the public on Tuesday Nov. 6.  Only Felony Arraignment Hearings will be held. The court will reopen on Wednesday Nov. 7.

Pelton inducted into College of Labor and Employment Lawyers

Eric J. Pelton of Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton, P.L.C. was elected as a Fellow to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.  Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by one’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the labor and employment law profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication, and excellence.
The seventeenth installation of Fellows was held on Nov. 3 in Atlanta, Ga. With the current installation, the College is represented by 1,200 members in 43 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and six Canadian provinces.
Pelton is a founding member of the firm, Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton, P.L.C.  and serves as its managing member. He has represented employers in litigation and concerning traditional labor matters for 25 years. He has tried, arbitrated, and mediated cases throughout the country. He has also enjoyed representing clients on election law issues and previously served on the Michigan Board of State Canvassers. Pelton is currently a member of the Michigan Board of Law Examiners having been appointed by the Governor on nomination by the Michigan Supreme Court.
Pelton has been identified by Chambers USA as a leader in the employment field in Michigan. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the employment and labor field.

DMBA to hold mass swearing in ceremony for new lawyers Nov. 7
 The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association mass swearing in ceremony for new lawyers will take place Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center Auditorium 2 Woodward Avenue, 13th Floor, “City Side.”
New attorneys should plan to arrive by noon to allow for check-in and seating. The Ceremony itself will begin at 12:30. Prior to the Ceremony, new attorneys must register with the Wayne County Clerk’s Office.
To register, take the original letter from the Board of Law Examiners, along with a $25 filing fee (cash or money order) to their office (located in Room 201 of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center). This registration must be done in person, and must be completed prior to the Admission Ceremony. For additional information, visit www.detroitlawyer.org.
