The Kent Metro Cold Case Team has arrested a suspect in connection with the 2007 murder of Russell Griffin.
Alvon Marquis Davis, age 22, was arrested on October 18, 2012 and charged with Second Degree Murder, Felony Firearm and Habitual Offender.
Davis is charged with the murder of Russell Griffin, age 19, who was shot and killed as he entered his residence at 1154 Cromwell Ave, SE, Grand Rapids, during the early morning hours on April 9, 2007.
Kent Metro Cold Case Investigators opened the case after developing new leads. The investigation pointed to Alvon Davis, who is currently incarcerated at the Ionia Maximum Correctional Facility for an unrelated crime. On Oct. 18, a warrant was authorized charging Davis with the murder of Russell Griffin.
Davis waived his preliminary hearing on Oct. 30 in the 61st District Court before Judge Laville. Davis will remain in the Kent County Jail pending a status conference.
The Kent Metro Cold Case Team consists of detectives from the Michigan State Police, Grand Rapids Police Department, and the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
The Kent Metro Cold Case Team operates off a National Institute of Justice grant. This is the 11th solved homicide investigated by the team.
