Wi-Fi hotspot available at 36th District Court
The 36th District Court Madison Center is now providing access to wireless high-speed Internet. Building occupants can now enjoy a wireless, broadband quality data connection by using their PDA, laptop and other Wi-Fi enabled devices. No passphrase or security keys are necessary; to access the connection, simply turn on your wireless device, search for an available connection and connect. This service will provide access to all legal and judiciary sites, but access to social networking sites is prohibited.
Note that only attorneys, law enforcement officers and court employees are allowed to bring in electronic devises with photographic and or recording capabilities.
U.S. Marshals get new tools for handling anonymous tipsters
DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. Marshals Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team has new tools to help track down fugitives.
Officials announced this week that the team now may receive anonymous tips via text message or online. Tipsters previously were limited to calling the 866-4WANTED hotline.
The tipster and the tipster’s phone number remain anonymous to law enforcement unless the tipster chooses to be identified.
Tipsters may text the keyword “DFAT” and the tip to 847411 (tip411). Investigators will be able to view the tip and send a text message back to the tipster to ask for follow up information.
Regular text fees will apply based on the tipster’s phone service plan. Online tips may be made via the U.S. Marshals website.

Butzel Long committee to host ABA regional networking program
The Butzel Long Women’s Leadership Committee is hosting the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Woman Advocate Committee’s Regional Networking brown bag lunch program at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office located at Stoneridge West Building, 41000 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills. Civil rights scholar to read from new book
Acclaimed civil rights scholar john a. powell (he uses no capitals in his name) will read from his new book, “Racing to Justice: Transforming Our Conceptions of Self and Others to Build an Inclusive Society,” in a special event at Wayne State University Law School on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The event — free and open to the public — will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by the reading at 7 p.m. It will take place in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at Wayne Law, 471 W. Palmer St.
