Smith Haughey Rice and Roegge attorney William Jack, recipient of numerous awards over the years for his legal skills, has come out with his second book, continuing to follow the interesting lives of the characters in his first.
In both of Jack’s books, people around protagonist Will Bennett, also an attorney, have really abysmal luck when it comes to dying. Bennett lost his best friend in Journey’s End. In The Dead End of Dying, available from Schuler Books or through Amazon, the partners in Bennett’s Albuquerque law office are dropping like flies. It is up to Bennett, the remaining partners, and Bennett’s wife, a local judge, to figure out why — and how to avoid meeting the same fate.
Along the way, several of the other endearing characters from Journey’s End make an appearance, and there are hints that there will be more books in the future offering a chance to get to know some of them better.
The proceeds from every sale of The Dead End of Dying go to Kids’ Food Basket, the Grand Rapids non-profit which prepares sack suppers for schoolchildren from struggling families. The book is dedicated in part to KFB’s inspiring founder Mary Kay Hoodhood.
