Jackson recognized for 2012 business development projects
Site Selection Magazine announced its annual state rankings for new and expanded facilities today with the Award of its Governors Cup.
The award recognizes states and metropolitan areas for the numbers of new and expanded facilities announced in the past year.
The national rankings for metropolitan areas are presented in four population categories; over 1 million; 200,000 to 1 million; less than 200,000; and 10,000 to 50,000 in population.
In the under 200,000 population category, Jackson County tied for second in the United States with 13 projects along with Battle Creek.
Projects are qualified based on number of jobs, square footage and investment. Among the states, Michigan ranked fourth overall with 337 projects.
The Site Selection yearly analyses, which have been done annually since 1978, are regarded by corporate real estate analysts as "the industry scoreboard."
"The level of activity that we have seen in the past year in Jackson County is very exciting," said Tim Rogers, president and CEO of the Enterprise Group of Jackson. "We have been working diligently with businesses in the Jackson area to make sure they are positioned for growth as the economy continues to rebound. This ranking demonstrates that the Jackson area provides businesses with all the assets they need to grow and be profitable."
The EG and its partner organizations, the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, the Academy for Manufacturing Careers and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center of South Central Michigan, assist existing and prospective businesses with state-of-the-art skills training, development assistance, financing and contract procurement.
