Michigan Lawyers Weekly names Courtade a Leader in the Law


Rhoades McKee, PC shareholder Bruce A. Courtade has been recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of its 2013 Leaders in Law, selected based on not only successful service to client and community but also ability to inspire and lead others.

A member of Rhoades McKee’s Litigation, Construction and Employment Law practice groups, Courtade helps his  clients identify, assess and limit exposure to liability by serving as a sounding board, writing and reviewing contracts, and, when necessary, representing those clients in courts throughout the State. He is a Martindale-Hubbell "A-V" Preeminent rated attorney, and has been named a “Superstar Lawyer” in Commercial Litigation by Law & Politics Magazine, an honor given the top 5% of attorneys in Michigan.

Currently president of the State Bar of Michigan, Courtade has served a total of 12 years on its Board of Commissioners, and chaired the  Representative Assembly in 2000-2001. He is a Life Member of the State Bar Foundation, serves as a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society Board of Directors, and has been an Attorney Discipline Board hearing panelist for roughly a decade (although he is currently on leave due to his State Bar presidency). He has written and spoken to numerous public and bar organizations about topics including but not limited to the need for judicial independence and for adequate court funding; trends facing the legal profession in the 21st century; and professionalism and ethics. He has also guest lectured to Cooley Law School students at on professionalism and civility.

Courtade has also been active in West Michigan since graduating from University of Michigan Law School in 1988, and has served on the boards of various organizations, including the West Michigan Center for Arts & Technology, the University of Michigan Club of Grand Rapids, and the Grand Rapids AIDS Resource Center.
