The Michigan Chapter and Wayne State University Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society (ACS) presented “With Religious Liberty for All: A Defense of the Affordable Care Act’s Contraception Coverage Mandate” on Monday, March 18, at the Detroit offices of Miller Canfield. Frederick Mark Gedicks (third from left), the Guy Anderson Chair & Professor of Law at Brigham Young University Law School, presented his arguments that the contraception mandate does not violate the rights of religious employers under either the First Amendment’s religion clauses or the
Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Welcoming Gedicks to the program were (l-r) Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Douglas Shapiro, Michael Elkins, ACS-MI Board member Gary Maveal, ACS-MI President Elect Matthew Leitman, and ACS-MI Secretary John Jacobs.
