The Chaldean American Bar Association will present its 4th annual Anniversary Celebration & Scholarship Dinner Celebrating 20 Years on Thursday, June 6 at Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield Township.
Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano, who was named to the high court by Gov. Rick Snyder in February, will be the keynote speaker. At the time he was selected, Viviano was serving as chief judge of Macomb County Circuit and Probate Courts.
The CABA will be recognizing Salman T. Sesi of Sesi & Sesi P.C. and State Rep. Klint Kesto.
Sesi is a leader as one of the first Chaldean attorneys.
“I feel honored to be recognized by the Chaldean American Bar Association on their 20th anniversary,” Sesi said. “It does not seem so long ago that I started out as the only Chaldean attorney and now see our numbers have grown tremendously.”
Kesto said “the community has impacted me greatly in my decision to move forward in politics.
“I hope to make you proud as the first Chaldean to represent the great people of Michigan in the State House of Representatives,” he said.
The Chaldean American Bar Association is a special purpose bar association currently comprised of over 100 attorneys and law students.
It was founded in 1993.
CABA President Paul Jonna said the organization is active in a number of community and civic projects and focused on gaining “a stronger presence for our community and to provide tools and resources to our members so that they may further succeed in their legal practice.”
Viviano, 41, filled a vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the resignation of former Justice Diane Hathaway.
Viviano was elected to the circuit court bench in 2006. Prior to that, he worked at Dickinson Wright PLLC in Detroit and Jenner & Block LLC in Chicago before starting his own firm in Mount Clemens.
He also served as city attorney for Center Line.
