Rapper Eminem’s publisher sues Facebook over song usage
DETROIT (AP) — Eminem’s song publisher is suing Facebook and an ad agency, saying they copied music from one of the rapper's songs.
Eight Mile Style filed a federal lawsuit in Detroit on Monday, alleging that a Facebook ad that was broadcast online last month copied music from Eminem’s 2000 song “Under the Influence.”
The Detroit Free Press reports the 30-second ad was featured in a webcast by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to announce Facebook Home, an interface for Android phones.

Former justice Hathaway lawyer: Don’t lock her up for bank fraud
DETROIT (AP) — An attorney for a former Michigan Supreme Court justice says community service would be an appropriate sentence for a scandal that forced her out of office.
Diane Hathaway is returning to federal court next Tuesday for her sentence for bank fraud. She concealed assets while urging a bank to allow a short sale on a lakefront home in Grosse Pointe Park, near Detroit.
Hathaway quit the Supreme Court in January, a week before pleading guilty. In a court filing, her attorney, Steve Fishman, says it’s a serious crime but not one that threatened the banking system. He says Hathaway has been publicly humiliated and given up her law and real estate licenses.
Prosecutors haven’t filed a sentencing memo yet but have said some prison time seems appropriate.

Bill signed to revise judicial makeup in Clinton County

LANSING, Mich. - A bill revising the number of judgeships in Clinton County has been signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.
Senate Bill 43, sponsored by state Sen. Rick Jones, amends a 2011 law that eliminated several judgeships statewide, by retaining the Clinton County District Court seat and eliminating one of the two circuit court judgeships instead.
Which circuit court judgeship will be eliminated will be determined when either of the two seats become vacant or when either of the sitting judges chooses to not seek re-election.
“This legislation is consistent with the Michigan State Court Administrative Office’s Judicial Resources Recommendations Report and ensures Clinton County residents have judicial representation at both the district and circuit court levels,” Snyder said.
The 2011 report called for the removal of one judgeship from within the 29th Judicial Circuit, but was not specific to which one. Public Act 300 of 2011, which eliminated the judgeships, designated the county to lose its district court judgeship, leaving the probate court to assume district court responsibilities despite there being two circuit court judges.
