WCBA Public Service Committee needs volunteers to plant flowers
The Washtenaw County Bar Association Public Service Committee is again sponsoring Avalon Housing's Gardening with Grace program, aimed at beautifying some of the Avalon properties with flower gardens.
In the past, 164 flats of flowers were planted by Avalon around 23 different sites--with nearly 6,000 individual plants brightening up local neighborhoods.
Avalon Housing provides permanent affordable and supportive rental housing for Washtenaw County's lowest income households, with a priority for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and who have a mental or physical disability.
Avalon builds communities by helping people achieve self-sufficiency. It reduces isolation, fosters peer support and inspires a collective sense of hope.
Volunteers are needed to again support this program. Flowers will be planted from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 1 at Stimson Apartments, intersection of Stimson and S. Industrial. Street parking is available on White Street or in the parking lot at the nearby CVS.
Judges, magistrates, attorneys, staff and family members are all invited to participate. Sign up with Candy (994-4912 or newtonc@ewashtenaw.org) at the WCBA office.
