State Bar Young Lawyers Section announces recipient of 2013 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award

The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section will present Ronda Tate with the Regeana Myrick Outstanding Young Lawyer Award on Saturday, June 8 at the Greektown Casino-Hotel in Detroit.

The award is named for Regeana Myrick, who was a very active member of the SBM Young Lawyers Section Executive Council when she died in 1997. It is presented annually to a young lawyer in Michigan who has demonstrated many of her best qualities: An overwhelming commitment to public service, exemplary service to the State Bar, and exceptional professional accomplishments.

Ronda Tate is an associate attorney at Lewis & Munday, P.C., in Detroit, where she represents a wide variety of public and private clients, ranging from municipalities to Fortune 100 corporations. She is president-elect of the Wolverine Bar Association and serves on the board of directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers Section. In 2011, she was the youngest member appointed to the Institute for Continuing Legal Education Labor and Employment Advisory Board. In her roles with these organizations, Tate has coordinated public service initiatives to benefit underprivileged citizens. She has received the Pro Bono Recognition Award from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

“Ronda Tate is a shining example of the spirit of Regeana Myrick and her commitment to public service and those less fortunate,” said Felicia Johnson, Chair of the YLS Executive Council. “Ms. Tate is a leader in her profession and community. On behalf of the YLS, we are extremely pleased to present the 2013 Regeana Myrick Outstanding Young Lawyer Award to such a deserving recipient.”

The Outstanding Young Lawyer Award will be presented as part of the SBM Young Lawyers Section's Sixth Annual Summit. The Summit contains a full day of seminars that will cover such topics as criminal law, legal writing, oral advocacy, evidence, depositions, technology, and social media. It will also feature a keynote address from Dickinson Wright Chairman Emeritus Dennis W. Archer, a former American Bar Association and SBM president.
