Darryl Cochrane, born October 26, 1939 in Alpena, passed away June 11, 2013.
He graduated from Alpena High School, Alpena Community College and held three degrees from the University of Michigan: a Bachelor of Science, a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate with distinction and honors. He married the former Joanne Scott, also from Alpena, in 1961 and moved from Ann Arbor to Muskegon where he became a partner in the McCroskey, Feldman, Cochrane and Brock. He practiced there until 1999.
He retired from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 406 in 2000. His practice involved worker's compensation cases and representing labor unions. He loved fishing, especially fly fishing and Steelhead, and he was a long-time member of Trout Unlimited. He gave seminars in Alaska and made many trips to Canada enjoying his hobby. He was looking forward to many years of fishing with his grandchildren. He was the author of numerous articles and gave lectures on many topics. He belonged to the Muskegon History Club, a luncheon discussion group, and was an active member of Muskegon’s First Congregational Church. He also taught at the George Meany Center in Washington DC, for Michigan State Univ. and was aadjunct professor at Muskegon Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Cochrane; an older brother, Robert; and a nephew, Peter Scott. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Dana (Neil) Hoekstra of Muskegon, Tom (Sigrid) Cochrane of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Morgan and Liam Hoekstra, Peter and Anna Cochrane; sister, Marilyn Cochrane-Sharp; and brother-in-law, Douglas (Liz) Scott; plus several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held at First Congregational Church on June 19. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Michigan Trout Unlimited and First Congregational Church.
