Judge joins forces with astronaut Tony England at policy conference
Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren addressed a gathering of public officials and business leaders at Fort Mackinac last week. Held for attendees of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Policy Conference, the reception was hosted by Patriot Week Inc. Warren spoke on the vital importance of renewing the spirit of America through Patriot Week.
University of Michigan professor and former astronaut, Tony England, also addressed the gathering by emphasizing the need to reform K-12 education to integrate engineering into the curriculum.
England was involved in the Apollo program, flew on the Space Shuttle, Space Lab 2, led field parties in Antarctica, and has developed satellite technologies to monitor climate change. England is a leading voice to advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Michigan K-12 education.
Warren was appointed to the Oakland County Circuit Court in 2002 by Gov. John Engler and currently serves in a leadership position as the Presiding Judge of the Civil/Criminal Division of the Court. He and his then 10-year-old Leah created Patriot Week in 2009. The week is anchored by the key dates of September 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist’s attacks) and September 17 (Constitution Day).

MSU, LAD to conduct free home foreclosure prevention clinic
Michigan State University Extension and Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. will conduct a free clinic for residents of Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties on preventing home foreclosures Thursday, Aug. 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the VerKuilen Building, 21885 Dunham Road, Clinton Township.
The clinic is one of a series of clinics and workshops conducted by LAD as part of its broad based advocacy program. It will cover homeowners’ rights in the foreclosure process, effective strategies to avoid foreclosure and work out affordable solutions, and beneficial insights of housing counseling and home retention options.
“We understand that our neighborhoods have fallen victim to predatory lenders, abusive loan servicers, economic hard times, mortgage rescue scam artists, and other hardships,” said Regina Daniels Thomas, deputy chief counsel-broad based advocacy for LAD’s Civil Law Group, said. “As a result many are struggling with unaffordable mortgages, pending foreclosures, and uncooperative lenders unwilling to work out a reasonable solution.”
