Scholarship dinner hosted by Michigan Muslim Bar Association
The Michigan Muslim Bar Association will host its Annual Scholarship Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Byblos Banquet Hall located at 7258 Chase Rd. in Dearborn.
Sponsorships are still available. Gold sponsorship is $1,000 which includes 10 tickets and a banner at the event. Table sponsorship is $750 for 10 tickets.
Individual tickets are $75. Members pay $50 and students pay $35.

Mother can’t sue the state, child workers in 9-year-old son’s death
DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A federal appeals court says a judge was wrong to allow a civil suit to proceed against state Child Protective Services workers and the state by the mother of a western Michigan boy killed by his father in a murder-suicide.
The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati ruled Tuesday that state workers’ conduct wasn’t the “direct cause” of injuries that killed 9-year-old Nicholas Braman.
The appeals court reversed the decision of a federal district judge who’d refused to dismiss the agency and workers as defendants.
Nicholas died in 2007 when Oliver Braman filled a room in his home in Montcalm County’s Douglass Township with carbon monoxide. Oliver Braman and his wife also died.
Days earlier, Oliver Braman skipped his sentencing for abusing two other sons.
Dickinson Wright to take part in 2013 Ohio Conference on Freight

Later in the day, Dickinson Wright will host a reception featuring Consul General of Canada Roy Norton, who will address conference attendees on cross-border infrastructure projects, including an update on the New International Trade Crossing. Mark High, a member of Dickinson Wright and president of the Canada-U.S. Business Association in Detroit-Windsor will introduce Consul General Norton and discuss Dickinson Wright’s leading cross-border practice.
Founded in 2007 by the Toledo Metropolitan Council of Governments (TMACOG), the high-profile conference annually attracts over 200 professionals from the private and public sectors and from numerous states and provinces in the U.S. and Canada.
