Cooley 5K Race for Education raise much-needed funds
On Sept. 15, about 3,000 runners and walkers participated in Cooley Law School’s 5K Race for Education and Impression 5’s Capital City River Run Half Marathon – all part of the Capital City River Run Weekend of Races. Race participants nominate a favorite school for a chance to win money in two ways - Race Proceeds, and through the School Competition.
Race proceeds go to schools that are selected through a random drawing from nominations made by race participants and the School Competition awards the three schools with the most nominations with cash prizes of $1,000 for 1st, $750 for 2nd, and $500 for 3rd.
The schools winning the random drawing each receive a percentage of the race proceeds. This year’s recipients are: 50% winner Eastern High School, Lansing, nominated by Samuel-Tony Atangana; 25% winner, Pinecrest Elementary, East Lansing, nominated by Carie Tagorda; 10% winner, Pine Avenue Elementary, Alma, nominated by Jon Case; 10% winner Grand Ledge High School, Grand Ledge, nominated by Jeanette McWaters; 5% winner Bennett Woods Elementary, Okemos, nominated by Jessica Sobel.
“Cooley Law School is proud to help raise funds for our schools, especially at a time when they are struggling with tightened budgets,” said Terry Carella, Cooley’s communications director and 5K race director. “Every year I look forward to contacting the winning schools to let them know that they will be receiving some unexpected money. It's a great feeling to know that the Cooley 5K has made such a difference...”
