Briefing set for Nov. 22

 The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce invites business leaders in south central Michigan to attend an executive briefing on the elimination of the Industrial Personal Property (PPT) from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 at Alro Steel, 2500 Enterprise, Jackson.

The Michigan business community celebrated last year when Michigan enacted a law to eliminate the PPT that costs Michigan businesses $576 million annually, according to Mindy Bradish-Orta, president/CEO of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, and executive director of the Jackson County Visitors Bureau.
 
But she says passage of the law was only half the battle. This bold effort to reduce taxes on Michigan businesses still requires a vote of the people for final approval or the tax cut will be repealed. 
 
“This means that we need a majority of Michigan voters to vote YES on Primary Election Day on August 5, 2014,” she said in a statement. “The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Association of Michigan and the National Federation of Independent Business-Michigan support this ballot proposal.    
 
“If you are a small business or manufacturer, the personal property tax relief will directly benefit you beginning as early as 2014.  But every business has a stake in passing the ballot question because we eventually want to expand this relief to all business taxpayers while making sure that our local institutions who rely on this income are also taken care of.”
