Thomas M. Cooley Law School hosted “Working Together to Stop Bullying” on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus. The seminar focused on how to stop bullying and harassment in schools under “Matt’s Safe School Law.” The law, signed by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder in December 2011, is named after Matt Epling, a high school freshman from East Lansing who killed himself in 2002 after being bullied by upperclassmen. The seminar, hosted by Cooley, was specifically for members of the Metropolitan Detroit Bureau of School Studies Inc. “Making sure schools and parents have access to educational resources is key,” said Cooley Professor Monica Nuckolls, one of the seminar’s organizers. “Educating about the warning signs, prevention tactics, and consequences that can occur will be the first step of educators working together to stop bullying.”
