The Pro Bono Committee of the Federal Bar Association and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, recently presented a Prisoner Rights Civil Litigation Training for pro bono attorneys and members of the Pro Bono Council. The event was held at the T. Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. ?Among those taking part in the training were (left to right) Cooley Law?School Auburn Hills campus Dean John Nussbaumer, University of Michigan Law School Prof. Paul Reingold, Heidi Naasko of Dykema Gossett PLLC, Michigan State University College of Law Prof. Dan Manville, U.S. District Court Judge Denise Page Hood, U.S. District Court Administrator David Weaver, FBA President Michael Lee with Law Offices of Lee & Correll, and Peter Martell. A total of 42 lawyers attended the all-day training that was designed to increase the number of pro bono volunteer lawyers willing to accept case assignments from the district court. The training was videotaped free of charge by Bienenstock Court reporting, and attorneys interested in viewing the video should contact FBA Pro Bono Committee Chair John Nussbaumer at nussbauj@cooley.edu.
