Kiwanis newspaper sale to benefit local children

Each year, hundreds of needy Jackson Public School students receive shoes and boots from the Kiwanis Club of Jackson. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, Kiwanis Club members will be stationed in front of businesses throughout the Jackson area, asking for a contribution. In return, donors will receive the Kiwanis Newspaper, which highlights how the service club helps the community.

“Our club helps people in Jackson County, with an emphasis on kids,” said Joe Wolfe, co-chair of the Kiwanis Newspaper Sale. “Through this project, you can really make a difference in the lives of local kids. Please help us, so we can help them.”

For the 2012-2013 school year, Kiwanis spent nearly $9,000 on shoes and boots and served about 300 children.

"The club's newspaper sale guarantees that we can serve the children in critical need of shoes and boots,” said Eileen Lehnert, chair of the Shoes and Boots project. “Unfortunately, that need continues to be great among Jackson Public School students."

This is the club’s 95th annual Newspaper Sale and is its oldest continuing project.
